No Room for the Groom Reviews

Curtis plays a soldier bound for Korea in this lifeless comedy. Before leaving he and girl friend Laurie elope to Las Vegas. Upon returning from the war, Curtis finds himself fighting a different kind of battle. It seems Laurie lives with her mother, father, and more relatives than the family in CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN. Curtis has one other problem: Laurie has neglected to tell her mother (Byington) about the marriage, and now mama wants her daughter to marry a rich man. Her intended is a cement tycoon (DeFore) who wants to run a new railroad through the land owned by Laurie's family. The humor is forced and gradually grows weary. Sirk's direction merely records the action with no sense of timing and no feeling for the material.
