Murder in the Blue Room Reviews

Third film version of a lame haunted house comedy (the first two were SECRET OF THE BLUE ROOM [1933] and THE MISSING GUEST [1938]) shows no improvement. Litel plays a theater manager recently married to Walker, his deceased best pal's widow. The couple decides to return and reopen the house her former husband was murdered in. The reluctant house guests arrive, and soon afterward secret panels, trap doors, and corpses of other guests are discovered. In the end it is revealed that the family doctor bumped off the dead husband's father first, and polished off the son when he got too nosy. The laughs are few and far between. In this film, Gwynne sings "One Starry Night," and McDonald, Kean, and Preisser, as "The Three Jazzybelles," do a novelty number and an Andrews Sisters-like rendition of "Boogie Woogie Boogie Man." The Jazzybelles also dance to "Dancing Away the Blues" and "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows."
