Monkeys, Go Home! Reviews

After 68 years in show business, the 79-year-old Chevalier starred in his final film role alongside a barrel of monkeys in this average Disney picture. Jones arrives in France from the States to farm an olive plantation willed to him by his late uncle. Chevalier, a local priest, warns Jones how expensive it can be to gather up all the olives, so Jones comes up with his own surefire plan. He hires four trained female monkeys to do the harvesting, an idea that meets considerable opposition from the neighbors. When a male chimp shows up and distracts the four females, things get out of control. Eventually, Chevalier convinces Jones's neighbors to lend a hand. This is great fun for young viewers, who never seem to get enough of monkeys. Though set in France, the picture was shot entirely in a rehabbed ZORRO set on a Disney studio backlot.
