Longshot Reviews

Reviewed By: Buzz McClain

The plot, which sounds more convoluted than it is, is negligible and clumsily handled -- Faulkner is simpler -- and the high-energy, self-conscious action results in something that feels more like an extended music video than a genuine movie. The main attraction here are the cameos by Britney Spears (briefly, and unimpressively, as a flight attendant) and members of pop bands *N Sync, O-Town, LFO, and Take 5, although the PG-13 rating will keep the film out of the hands of the target pre-teen audience. Director Lionel C. Martin struggles for a camp Rock 'n' Roll High School vibe, but fails, although the visual clutter and wall-to-wall teen music will convince those target viewers that manage to see it that they're being entertained. This must certainly be the noisiest film of the year.
