King of the Newsboys Reviews

Ayres is a small-time guy with big dreams. Mack is his girl who listens to him but can only take so much and eventually dumps him for the more affluent Varconi, a mobster. Ayres decides to show her who's big time and becomes successful in the newspaper trucking business. He gets himself a Park Avenue penthouse and tries once more for his lost love. Meanwhile, Mack has grown disillusioned with Varconi. In the end, Ayres winds up losing his penthouse but regaining the heart of his true love. The story is nothing new, but the acting does give it some freshness. The direction keeps things moving along so you won't mind the cliches too much. Unfortunately, the New York City atmosphere, so wonderfully captured in many of Republic's B films, is completely missing here.
