Terry-Thomas is called by Russell to a posh health club where some strange goings-on have upset the lady. But on the detective's arrival, he finds that she has been murdered and her secretary Redmond is nearly dead herself from poison. Posing as a health club patron, Terry-Thomas joins forces with the club's instructor Sykes. They investigate every possible lead, abetted by Jeffries and Price, until it is discovered that Redmond herself is responsible. Russell's will is read, with the bulk of the estate going to her beloved pooch. The film, despite an excellent cast, is about as unfunny as they come.
