Island of Doomed Men Reviews

Lorre is the owner of Dead Man's Isle, a place where paroled prisoners are sent, then forced to mine for diamonds. After killing an investigating agent from the Department of Justice, Lorre is pitted against agent Wilcox, who organizes a revolt among the workers. It is Lorre's servant, however, who deals the death blow, getting revenge for the shooting of his pet monkey. Lorre's character is described in press kits as being a "fastidious connoisseur of human suffering who cannot bear the sight or sound of physical torture." This simply means he plays Chopin's "Nocturnes" loudly to avoid hearing the enslaved men being flogged.
