Allen, a relatively late bloomer in the horse-opera genre, stars as the leader of a cattlemen's association who decides not to deal with evil meatpacker Keane, so instead he drives his herds across miles of waterless desert in order to divert business to an honest packing company run by Risdon ("a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do," etc., but did anybody ask the cattle what they thought?).
