Hiding Out Reviews

Andrew Morenski (Jon Cryer) is a hotshot New York stockbroker who, as the result of involvement in some shady dealings, finds himself hunted by a professional killer out to erase all traces of the transaction. He makes his way to Delaware, where his older sister lives along with her high school-age son, Patrick (Keith Coogan). He shaves his beard, dyes his hair, and then goes to meet his sister at the school where she works. He is amazed at how readily he is accepted as a student and hits upon an idea. He enrolls as a 17-year-old named Maxwell Hauser. For as bad as the premise initially sounds, the film is actually a pleasant surprise. Cryer does an admirable job of pulling off both ages, and Coogan is even better just playing one. Director Bob Giraldi gives it all a good deal of energy, especially in the first part, shot in a gray and ominous New York that takes on new menace under Giraldi's slick visual style.
