Jones quits the Texas Rangers after killing a boy he once knew. The kid was in a horse-rustling gang, and Jones thought the boy was shooting at him when, in reality the boy was aiming for another member of the gang gunning for Jones. The ex-Ranger goes to work at a ranch owned by one of his father's old friends. The owner is killed when Jones arrives, and his niece becomes upset when Jones won't take up his gun again. He does finally pack his pistol and goes on the trail of the murderer. The niece, Basquette, chases after him to say she's sorry.
