Hanover Street Reviews

Ford plays David Halloran, a gung ho American bomber pilot stationed in England during WWII who meets and falls in love with a young married Englishwoman, Margaret Sellinger (Down), with whom he's trapped during an air raid. In the best tradition of melodramatic wartime romances, Ford finds himself having to team up with Down's husband, Paul (Plummer), a British secret service agent, on a dangerous espionage mission that will take them behind enemy lines. Director Hyams (CAPRICORN ONE, OUTLAND, 2010) tries desperately to evoke the feel of the best of the 1940s wartime romantic dramas but, despite solid performances from the leads, his screenplay is predictable and trite, leaving the audience little to look forward to.
