Petra Peters is the versatile heroine of the German Christina. Cast away as a child, Christina finds shelter in a convent, where for reasons vital to the plotline she decides to pose as a male. Put to work as a stable boy, Christina grows into adulthood without ever revealing her true gender. Appointed aide-de-camp to one Major Merian (Wolfgang Lukschy), Christina falls in love with her superior officer, though of course she can't express her ardor without raising all sorts of trouble. Her one opportunity for romance occurs when she takes the place of a village maiden who has been ordered to spend the night with the Major. What follows can best be described as a "wake up call" for poor Christina.
