The Criminal at Large in this film murders his victims in the dark of night. There seems to be a pattern to the killer's activities, but Chief Inspector Tanner cannot figure it out. It looks as though dilettante sleuth Lord Lebanon will have to come to Scotland Yard's rescue.
This stodgy British mystery, though cleverly scripted, can't rise up from under its stiff, calculated performances. Shadowing a mad killer, McKinnel gives the only tolerable performance as a police inspector fine-toothing a dark and dreary castle.
