Cottonpickin' Chickenpickers Reviews

Reviewed By: Hans J. Wollstein

Produced by a Florida real-estate company -- presumably for tax deduction purposes -- this hayseed country & western musical has all the glamour of a train wreck. Unbelievably bad, but not quite bad enough to be funny, Cottonpickin' Chickenpickers became the final big screen appearance of such varied talents as WWII glamour boy Sunny Tufts, here depicted telling lame jokes while imbibing moonshine; 1922 WAMPAS Baby Star Lila Lee; and former Miss Denmark Greta Thyssen. The latter, who for no apparent reason plays her scenes wearing a skimpy polka dot bikini, appears as herself. Enough said. Slightly more entertaining than the beauteous Miss Thyssen is the spectacle of Mel Tillis crooning the unforgettable "Dirty Ole Egg Suckin' Dog" while sharing a helicopter ride with an aging Tommy Noonan. Re-released on VHS by Something Weird Video, Cottonpickin' Chickenpickers is awarded an appropriately insane introduction by Johnny Legend and his Hee-Haw Honeys.
