The distinguished H.B. Warner, who played Christ in Cecil B. DeMille'sThe King of Kings (1927), portrayed a detective assigned to catch a gang of murderous crooks in this silent crime drama directed by J.P. McGowan. Matters get a bit complicated when Warner falls in love with the wife (Lillian Biron) of his chief suspect (Bert Sprotte), but everything is cleared up in the end. Typically for McGowan, the climax of Below the Deadline takes place on a runaway train. McGowan remade the film is 1929, with Frank Leigh as the detective.
