Arsene Lupin Returns Reviews

A less than enthusiastic sequel to the Barrymore original talkie, the action drags for the first third of the film while the plot is slowly unraveled, one where William, a fired FBI agent operating a security agency, escorts a fabulous jewel from New York to Europe via steamer. Douglas, as Lupin, makes a late entrance to plot the theft of the $250,000 gem. Bruce, a fetching passenger, is slowly wooed by Douglas. Douglas is a believable Lupin but is at times too much the gentleman for his notorious character. The up-and-down pace is unnerving and there's little suspense. Yet Douglas' pleasing performance lifts the film above the routine.
