16 Fathoms Deep Reviews

This remake of the 1934 feature was about as entertaining as its predecessor but with a few added features. The story tells of some sponge hunters who run into trouble with Chaney, the heavy who wants to get the boat away from the protagonists. They have to fend off sharks at a slow pace that doesn't build excitement until the film's nearly over. Bridges, featured as an ex-Navy diver, ironically went on to star as an underwater diver in TV's "Sea Hunt." Lake took leave from his "Blondie" films to play a comic tourist. SIXTEEN FATHOMS DEEP is probably most notable as being the first film released in the Ansco color process.
