Selleck says the family dynamic between Frank and his children on Blue Bloods hits close to home. "I think father-daughter relationships are really special," says Selleck. "I have one in life and I think we've both worked on that. Frank certainly doesn't love his sons any less and those are special relationships, but it's just different with a daughter."

On taking the Blue Bloods role, Selleck says he "had to think about this one. I quit Magnum P.I. because work and family were out of balance and I wanted to have a family."

"I don't think he's depressed," says Selleck of his Blue Bloods character, Frank. "I think he has a very tough job. He is lonely, he misses his wife, he misses his son. That's who he is. But he's very much into his job and he's very much into his responsibility with the family."
