A glimpse into the closet of the fiercest woman on television
Oh Cookie, how far you've come. At the beginning, the furs Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) wore were borrowed from acquaintances of previous costume designer Rita McGhee -- including her mother-in-law Janet Bailey, who was was once married to Earth Wind & Fire's Philip Bailey. Cookie's furs were initially meant to make her look soft in contrast to the toughness she needed to survive prison -- where she's sprung from when we meet her in this very first episode wearing this off-white mink trench.
Rabbit? Yak? It doesn't matter. Cookie's look says she's the boss...of the streets.
Bold trim makes it clear that Cookie won't turn down the fabulousity -- not even for the funeral of her cousin Bunkie (Antoine McKay), who Lucious (Terrence Howard) shoots in Episode 1.
A bright magenta stole accents the form-fitting dress (does she wear any other kind?) Cookie wore when she starts to seriously solidify her place in the Empire boardroom. Why dress like the boys when you can intimidate them with femininity?
One of her most luxurious looks was unfortunately wasted when she showed up to dinner with Lucious wearing just lingerie under a stunning sable -- only to find out Lucious was engaged to her nemesis, Boo Boo Kitty (Grace Gealey).
Despite - or perhaps because - the fact that white is a funeral color in India, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) and Cookie turned up to their function dressed to the desi nines. All I know is seeing Cookie looking so regal in this patterned number would strike me dead.
A surprisingly understated chocolate mink for an episode in which Cookie tries, not for the first time, to get her ex Lucious and son Jamal on the same page.
Even Cookie has her slip-ups. This coat with shawl and wrist accents complement her miniskirt and thigh-high boots, but she ends up looking like a rejected Austin Powers go-go dancer. It's a rare fail.
Cookie is back to business in this floor-length fierce coat that's defined by its simplicity. Not to worry though, it shan't get dirty. That's what Porsha (Ta'Rhonda Jones) is for, right?
Little Red Riding Hood wishes she could slay like this! This coat is by Georgine, a New York-based luxury label with a flair for the outrageous.
Cookie turned the dial all the way up in Season 2, serving everyone in her path a severe dose of savagery in this shaggy striped Helen Yarmak coat with exaggerated sleeves. Too much? Never.
Even in a crisis, Cookie is going to show out -- arriving at the hospital to tend to Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) (who'd been pushed down the steps by crazy Anika) in a sick fox fur.
Chic and -- dare we say? -- subdued in a knee-length vest in an ash color that says, "I will end you. Try me."
In Season 2, Cookie's style game elevated beyond her banjee girl roots, thanks to the work of costume designer Paolo Nieddu, but she's still showing ghetto fabulous swag in this oversized parka, paired with jeans.
It's all about the trim here.
Iconic in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired moment courtesy of a pink Altuzarra fox fur.
You too can have Cookie's uber-fabulous Moschino graffiti coat if you've got a spare $29,995 to drop.
Hard to tell what's going on with this one. Is that shawl collar detachable or part of the coat? Is that a fur band wrapped around the waist -- like us peons would do with a sweatshirt -- or part of the look? Either way, it's sharp.
Is Cookie on her way for a little vacation in the tundra? Is she off to forage for ice (and by that we mean diamonds)? Who knows. But that Moschino wrap coat most certainly would make anyone who comes near her freeze.
Cookie is devastating in this otherworldly stole/oversized scarf -- which is appropriate because this is the night Jamal is accidentally shot by Freda Gatz (Bre-Z) instead of intended target, Lucious.
One of Cookie's most iconic looks of all time -- the allover patterned Le Snob suit -- is paired here with a (comparatively) muted mink scarf. Just like the kind granny might wear!
If Cookie has a fashion philosophy, one of its tenets is that fur is appropriate for any occasion -- including finding our your daughter-in-law has been tossed off a roof to her demise.
Again, hospitals are no fun. Why not brighten the halls with a Marco de Vincenzo Tiger Coat in Canadian red fox and silver black fox? A steal at $20,720.
Giving you playful Tina Turner vibes in a blood red Fendi with flower appliques.
Cookie's puffy white fur here does two things: make her look like a polar bear while cradling her son Jamal, and nod at her newfound innocence as a result of cozying up to her new straight-edge boo Angelo Dubois (Taye Diggs).
Lil Kim ain't got sh-t on Cookie Lyon.
We all know Cookie lives for an animal print, and she goes all in with this ankle-length cheetah pattern. Symbolism much?
Cookie is a model of sleek sophistication in this dyed fortress of a garment.
Making everyone green with envy when she steps on the scene, Cookie complements her showstopping fur with a beret and gloves for a ladylike feel.
This one LOVES. HER. A. STOLE.
How do you say, "I'm rich, dangerous and give zero f---s? This white leopard fur by Fendi is certainly a good start.
Eh. This honestly looks like something one could get at Zara. We expect more from you, Cookie.
That's more like it! Cookie's looking like a dangerous doll in a hot pink Gucci.
Absolute SLAYAGE in this over-the-top lavender stunner. Eat your heart out, Barney.
Cookie looks a little out of sorts here in this coat, which doesn't quite go with everything else she's wearing, but it makes sense: the Lyon family is now trying to find baby Bella. Maybe she does know when to tone it down huh?
Minutes before a tragic explosion would send Lucious into a coma, Cookie let them all have it in a puke-green coat with apparently deep pockets. Why is everyone else so underprepared for the cold? Is it even cold? Who cares.
Yung Metro trusts anyone in contrasting colored sleeves.
Like something right out of a classic BLACKGLAMA ad. What becomes a legend most? Being Cookie Lyon!
Who wants to be seen in green? This queen, in an emerald Adrienne Landau for the ages.
