Thicke became one of America's most beloved TV dads when he starred as Jason Seaver on the ABC sitcom from 1985 to 1992. He received a Golden Globe nomination in 1988.

Gretzky was babysitting Thicke's son Robin when then-Kings owner Bruce McNall called Thicke's home after the deal was done. "I remember calling when the deal was finally done. It was early in the morning and I had to get Wayne to the airport with me to fly on to Edmonton, and it was [his son] Robin who answered the phone," McNall told Grantland.
