Although Defiance doesn't return until next summer, producer-director Michael Nankin and stars Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Jaime Murray and Stephanie Leonidas stopped by New York Comic Con Sunday to tease what's to come.
Even with the clock ticking on a looming medical apocalypse, a worldwide pandemic of fatal "English Sweating Sickness" initiated by the unleashing of a magical Black Orchid thingamabob, Syfy's quirky fan fave Warehouse 13 manages to find time to crack wise about the end of the world. "It's always 'ultimately death,'" Agent Pete (Eddie McClintock) bemoans when clued in about just how nasty the disease is that has infected the entire team and much of the rest of the planet. "Artifacts never release a plague of tickles or an epidemic of kittens." A plague of tickles: not a bad way to describe this tongue-in-cheek supernatural lark which pulls out all the guest-star stops in an eventful episode (Monday, 10/9c) by Drew Z. Greenberg that kicks off the second half of Season 4 with Evil Artie's (Saul Rubinek) life and soul also in jeopardy.
In the not too distant future, Earth is struggling to recover from a near-apocalypse. A gruff, wise-cracking loner and his young daughter reluctantly find themselves shouldering the responsibility of humanity's survival in the face of impossible odds. Sound familiar? On the surface, Defiance might seem like any other genre show, but the Syfy drama has pushed the boundaries of media consumption by becoming the first cross-platform narrative in television and online gaming.
Fanboys and girls are already clamoring for Defiance, Syfy's upcoming postapocalyptic alien drama, which is so big it can't be contained on a TV screen. The series, debuting in April, is breaking new ground by simultaneously launching a multiplayer gaming component available on PCs, Xbox and PlayStation 3. Here's what gamers and viewers need to know:
