Robert Picardo has made an indelible mark as a successful character actor in Hollywood for the last 30+ years, starring as such beloved characters as Dr. Dick Richard on China Beach, Coach Cutlip on The Wonder Years, The Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager and most recently as hard-ass Richard Woolsey on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. David Hewlett has played the arrogant and often irritating Rodney McKay on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis since 2002. As the series comes to an end Friday (9 pm/ET, Sci Fi), David reminisced with TVGuide.com about his adventures playing the obnoxious McKay, what is was like smooching pal and cast mate Jewel Staite (Dr. Jennifer Keller) and the possibility of appearing in the upcoming Stargate movie.TVGuide.com: I spoke to your costar Jewel Staite—David Hewlett: She's a liar. Stargate Atlantis' Jewel Staite on the End of the Show
Stargate Atlantis is coming to an end on Jan. 9, and before Stargate fans blast off into the new Universe series (beginning with a two-hour movie early in 2009), TVGuide.com asked Jewel Staite to help us countdown to the end of Atlantis by telling us what it was like to play Dr. Jennifer Keller, who she bonded with most in the cast and much more.TVGuide.com: Congrats on your Gemini Award (Canadian version of Emmys) nomination! Can you tell us about your experience filming the episode "Missing," and did you know it was special right away?Jewel Staite: Well, I knew it was freezing cold and rainy right away! This was the first "Keller-heavy" episode we filmed, so I was excited that I finally could do some serious acting-in-peril, which is secretly every actor's fantasy. But the whole episode was shot outside in the forest, and it wasn't exactly summer time, so there were a lot of layers involved — and I mean thermal layers, not acting layers! Luckily, Rachel Luttrell (Teyla), who co-starred with me in that episode, is such a joy to work with, and she has a wickedly sarcastic sense of humor that kept me going during those long days. I'm so pleased I was nominated for that episode, but a lot of the credit goes to the director, Andy Mikita, who has such a way with actors; he just lets you run with it and trust your own instincts, and I think that's why a lot of actors in his episodes tend to shine a bit more than usual. Stargate Series Gets New Universe
Stargate fans, rejoice! Sci Fi has just announced plans to order a third iteration in the hit franchise, beginning with a two-hour movie. Stargate: Universe will premiere early next year and then slide into a regular hourly slot in the summer. This is welcome news for long-time fans – the show has been on in some form since 1997 – since Stargate Atlantis was not picked up for another season, says The Hollywood Reporter .Universe will introduce a team of explorers who find an ancient unmanned ship called the Destiny. For some reason, they cannot return to Earth, so the crew must fend for themselves aboard the ship. Momoa's New 'Do Is a Don't, Says Stargate
His character, Ronon, still has his massive mane, but Jason Momoa, who plays the studly warrior on Stargate Atlantis, has shed his dreads — all five pounds of them. "After six-plus years, my head and neck were starting to hurt a lot," says Momoa, adding that all the hair kept him from wearing a bike helmet and keeping his balance while surfing. Execs at the Sci Fi Channel "didn’t want me to cut 'em," so now the actor has to wear a wig of dreads on screen. But, he adds, "The wig weighs more than my own hair, which sucks. Less than a year after Stargate finished its 10-season run, Christopher Judge — who plays the muscle-bound alien Teal'c — is returning to the franchise on Stargate Atlantis (tonight at 10 pm/ET, Sci Fi). Stargate Atlantis Keeps Flying for a Fifth Season
Sci Fi Channel has greenlit a fifth, 20-episode season of Stargate Atlantis, it was announced late Tuesday. The series, which has been averaging 1.8 million total viewers this season (versus the cabler's typical audience of 1.3 mil), "truly came out from under the shadow of its sister series [Stargate SG-1] this year and proved that it's a hit in its own right," says Sci Fi exec VP Mark Stern.

Stargate AtlantisDoes any actor have more fun with a role than David Hewlett? This week an injection of the Wraith enzyme turned McKay into the Neurotic with the Golden Arm. Determined to get a hold of the crystals to access the Stargate (and get reinforcements to rescue Sheppard and Co.), McKay shoots the enzyme into his arm and turns into Superwhiner, tossing aside the meatheads Ford assigned to guard him with the greatest of ease ("That's what happens when you back a brilliant scientist into a corner!"). Of course, highs must come down, and Big Rodney is in for a mighty fall when he enters withdrawal. Speaking of homages, somebody has been watching The Fly (or cramming some Kafka). Poor Sheppard caught a bug that nearly turned him into a bug after he was bit by a crazy lady under the influence of Beckett's retrovirus. First he outhustles Ronon in the corridors of the city, then he turns a sparring match with the sticks into an excuse to make a pass at Teyla (although why it took Beckett's virus strain to get Sheppard interested has yet to be explained). Once again, it's personality-change time in Atlantis. Weir tries to cheer up the manic Sheppard, but comforting words aren't her forte. "'We're going to beat this'?" Sheppard mimics incredulously. "You really suck at this whole bedside manner thing, but I appreciate the effort."
