It's Official: CW Axes Aliens in America
Someone alert the nice folks at the MIA Network — some fresh product's headed their way. I just got the unofficial official word that one of this season's best new comedies, Aliens in America, has been axed. Despite rave reviews when it debuted last fall, the CW laffer went largely ignored by viewers. Which sucks for them, because they missed out on a fantastic little show.I've got better news for fans of another CW comedy, Reaper. I'm told it's "90 percent likely" that it'll be on the network's fall sked. Stay close to the Ausiello Report throughout the weekend for the latest renewals and cancellations ahead of next week's upfronts. ABC Stays Dirty, The CW Sows More Reaper
ABC has ordered an additional three scripts for two more of its freshman series: Dirty Sexy Money (woo-hoo!) and... Carpoolers (who knew!). Casting About: Heroes Baddie Meets the Reaper
Hot off her stint as Heroes "illusionist" Candice, Missy Peregrym has joined the CW's upcoming (and thus far very well-received) series Reaper, replacing Nikki Reed as the pretty coworker of Bret Harrison's bounty hunter for the devil. Also per the Reporter, David Alpay has joined Showtime's The Tudors in the series-regular role of Smeaton, a musician and dancer who loves to indulge in sex. (No, Smeaton is not some sort of anagram for "Timberlake.")
The CW Tries Out a Brand New Personality
A year ago, the former stars of the WB and UPN found themselves uncomfortably mingling on one stage for the first upfront of the new CW network. They looked like the kids at the wedding of two single parents.This year, the CW took a step toward developing its own personality, shedding the aging Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars (the longest-running unsuccessful show in prime time) and All of Us (the weakest link in its lineup of urban sitcoms). The network is even taking the teen out of teen-angst drama One Tree Hill. When that show returns in mid-season, the characters will have been fast-forwarded to their lives after college.The network is replacing All of Us with Aliens In America, a comedy about a Muslim exchange student coming to live in Wisconsin. It looks funny and a little provocative.
