Killer Mike's Netflix Show Trigger Warning Is Going to Piss People Off

In a good way!

Liam Mathews

Probably not a ton of people are going to watch Atlanta rap iconoclast Killer Mike's upcoming Viceland-style Netflix comedy docuseries Trigger Warning, but those who do are going to find something that pisses them off even if they mostly agree with Mike, whose challenging arguments are intelligent and thought-provoking even if they don't always land.

Trigger Warning will find one half of the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels "examining cultural taboos and giving viewers the space to examine the 'what ifs' and 'why nots' that limit how some people move and operate in the world," according to Killer Mike's statement accompanying the trailer.

"In six episodes, we explore the human condition using nontraditional approaches. Not everyone will agree with my methods (and some of what we're putting out is f---ing crazy), but this show is about embracing your freedom to challenge societal expectations and conformity," Mike writes. "This show is if an anarchist determined the status quo."

Those "nontraditional approaches" include only spending money in the black community for three days (which means no lap dances from Asian strippers) and helping the Crips capitalize on their brand recognition by launching a line of soda. There's gonna be some stuff that makes you go "I can't believe Netflix let him get away with this."

There's not a lot of information available about the show, but Netflix describes it as a "subversive comedy documentary series" where the man born Michael Render and "a team of funny correspondents explore socially relevant topics."

If Tucker Carlson finds out about this, he's not going to like it.

Trigger Warning with Killer Mike arrives on Netflix Friday, Jan. 18.
