If there's a common theme between Seasons 1 and 2 of The Terror, it's that the supernatural is not as horrifying as the things people do to each other. Season 2, which premieres tonight, is a ghost story set against the backdrop of Japanese American internment during World War II, and this exclusive sneak peek shows the human side of the terror.

The Terror: Infamy Boss on Tackling the Untold Horror of Japanese American Internment Camps

The first episode of the season, "A Sparrow in a Swallow's Nest," takes place before internment on Terminal Island, California, home of an insular Japanese American community who were viewed with suspicion by their white neighbors even before Pearl Harbor and internment. In this scene, Henry Nakayama (Shingo Usami), the captain of a small fishing boat, gets threatened by Stan Grichuk (Teach Grant), a laid-off buying agent. Grichuk says he'll report Henry for failing to register his boat in compliance with a government anti-spying ordinance unless he pays him off. And Henry, who's just trying to keep his head down and get by, will comply, with disastrous consequences.

The Terror: Infamy premieres Monday, Aug. 12 at 9/8c on AMC.
