In Wednesday's new episode of The Blacklist, Liz (Megan Boone) gets a new assignment investigating The Capricorn Killer, a cold case from early in her FBI career that's being reopened. Quantico needs her help, and she's more than willing to give it -- particularly given that she can't use her talents in the Garvey case.

In this exclusive clip, Cooper (Harry Lennix) tells Liz and Red (James Spader) that there's been a break in the Ian Garvey (Jonny Coyne) investigation. A fidget spinner-holding young witness has identified a man with black glasses like Garvey's as Singleton's killer, which could bolster her own testimony against Garvey in the investigation of Tom's (Ryan Eggold) murder.

Liz wants to question the witness, but Cooper says no, the widow and star witness can't also be the investigator in the case of her husband's murder. He and Red will handle Garvey. In the meantime, he has another case for her. At first she's not interested, but when Cooper says it's The Capricorn Killer, Liz perks right up.

The Blacklist: Liz Finally Remembers Tom's Killer

This killer's name is an obvious reference to the Zodiac Killer, who terrorized Northern California in the late '60s and early '70s and has never been caught. So maybe Liz will be taking a trip to San Francisco in search of an old foe. It'll be good for her, as it will take her mind off Tom for a little while and give her the chance to close a case that's eluded her for years.

The Blacklist airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
