Still Alice Writer and Director Richard Glatzer Dies of Complications From ALS
He was 63 years old
Just two weeks after Julianne Moore won the Academy Award for her role in Still Alice, the movie's writer and director, Richard Glatzer, has died, The Hollywood Reporter reports. He was 63.
Glatzer battled ALS since being diagnosed with the disease in 2011, shortly after he and husband Wash Moreland started developing Still Alice from the Lisa Genova book about a woman who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's.
Despite suffering from the debilitating effects from ALS, Glatzer was still able to finish the arduous task of writing and directing Still Alice with Moreland. Glatzer's difficulties with ALS got so bad that he was only able to communicate by tapping his toe on a special iPad, and he watched the Oscars telecast from the hospital after suffering severe respiratory problems.
Glatzer, whose other films included Quinceanera, The Last of Robin Hood and The Fluffer, was a producer on America's Next Top Model. He is survived by his sister Joan and her husband David, and his daughter Ruby.
