Star Trek: Discovery has added a new face for Season 2.

Marvel's Inhumansactor Anson Mount is set to play Christopher Pike, captain of the USS Enterprise before Kirk takes the helm, Varietyreports. In the sci-fi series' season finale, Discovery confirmed Pike's appearance when the crew received a distress call from the famed captain aboard the iconic ship.

Though details about the circumstances surrounding the Enterprise's appearance remain scarce, executive producer Alex Kurtzman has assured fans that the long-awaited cameo will be something they won't expect. "There will be a lot of surprises in terms of what you see on Enterprise," he previously told TV Guide. "And yes, we are staying totally consistent with canon."

Star Trek: Discovery: Everything We Know About Season 2 So Far

The Enterprise might be headed to Discovery but that doesn't mean you'll get to see its most famous crew members just yet. When the show picks up for Season 2, Kirk will be stationed near Earth aboard the USS Republic, making his appearance highly unlikely. And while Spock will serve as Pike's science officer in the new season of Discovery, that doesn't necessarily mean you'll see the Vulcan officer either. However, Discovery will finally address why Spock has never mentioned his adopted sister Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) in Star Trek canon.

"I've gone on the record with saying you guys are gonna get that answer," Kurtzman told us after the Season 1 finale. "When I said that, I knew we weren't gonna get that answer [until] Season 2. Which, by the way, doesn't mean you're gonna see Spock in Season 2."

Mount's other credits include Hell on Wheels, Lost, Sex and the City, Smallvilleand the Britney Spears-fronted film, Crossroads.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Discoveryis currently available to stream exclusively on CBS All Access.
