Sex Symbol: Who, Me?

After going out with both Julie Bowen and Lesley Boone on Ed, and moving in with Cynthia Nixon on Sex and the City — in a single TV year — David Eigenberg deserves to be a front-runner for People magazine's next "Sexiest Man Alive" cover. But he has in mind a slightly different headline: "Most Shocked Guy Ever."

"It's very funny — for years, I never played the boyfriend," the Long Island native tells TV Guide Online, chuckling. "I don't particularly see myself as all that handsome. What you see is what you get."

Of course, Eigenberg's humility is as big a part of his appeal as his boyish grin — and, no doubt, one reason that, while Sex usually discards its male co-stars quicker than its female characters go through condoms, he keeps getting asked back as Miranda's ex, Steve. In fact, he makes his first appearance of the season in this week's episode, airing Sunday at 9 pm/ET on HBO.

"There's been a little shift in Steve's typical pursuit," he teases. "He's taken an action that he's never taken before, and he's kind of made himself vulnerable."

Vulnerable?! Throwing around words like that ought to get the 37-year-old actor relentlessly pursued by the ladies. However, since being cast by Sex as a sweetheart, he actually has had a tough time finding one of his own.

"It's wreaked havoc on my dating life," he insists. "God bless — it's a wonderful show. But it's hard to find a woman who's not infatuated with it."
