Question: We are having a TV dilemma. Did Ed O'Neill from Married with Children ever played Archie Bunker's friend Stretch Cunningham on All in the Family? — Pat G. Televisionary: Allow me to solve said dilemma, Pat. 'Twas the six-foot-seven-inch tall James Cromwell who played the role, well before he charmed us as piggy pal Farmer Doggett in Babe and then made our skin crawl in L.A. Confidential. (You may also recall him from his work on such TV shows as Dallas and ER.) As far as I know, O'Neill didn't seriously pursue an acting career until he moved to New York in the early '80s, well after Stretch appeared on All in the Family in 1974.
