Not every TV cliff-hanger features gunshots, explosions and possible deaths. In the case of Numbers, the season ended with fans eager to hear whether Amita (Navi Rawat) would accept a proposal from Charlie (David Krumholtz).

The good news: Fans won't have to wait long for Amita's answer. "You will find out in the first episode whether she says yes or no," Rawat tells TVGuide.com.Naturally Rawat doesn't want to spoil the surprise before the show's premiere (Friday at 10/9c on CBS), but her general outlook on Charlie and Amita is positive. "Charlie and Amita are one of the few couples on TV who are actually together and stay together for the most part," Rawat says. "They're a pretty solid unit. I think it's just a matter of figuring things out between them, and there's still some stuff that needs to be worked through."Chief among the "stuff" is Amita's traditional family and the complexities of possibly marrying a colleague.

"My character is Indian, and in India there is a very traditional way of doing things and a lot of times there are a lot of arranged marriages," Rawat says. "Also, Amita has come so far in her career, and I don't think she would want to do something that might jeopardize her position professionally."One thing's for sure: Amita is thinking clearly at the moment of the proposal. Rawat says the fact that her character was kidnapped in the season finale helped open her character's eyes. "The experience was so overwhelming and out of her box," she says. "She is a professor, and even though she assists the FBI with field work and stuff, it's not like she's ever been in harm's way. It was an overwhelming experience, but ultimately put things in perspective as to what's important to her. And I think it did the same thing for Charlie, which is why he ended up asking her to marry him."Rawat also suggests that her academic and crime-fighting careers won't always be compatible. "I think she's very committed to being a professor," Rawat says "Sometimes it's a really tricky balance between teaching her classes and taking care of her students and also assisting the FBI. I try to bring that conflict to the work. It's still subtext, but I try to incorporate it because I think it will definitely be an issue."

If
Amita says yes, Rawat is hoping for a simple ceremony and, even more so, a dress that's easy to get in and out of. "In House of Sand and Fog, I had a really complicated dress, and when I used the bathroom between shooting the scene, I had to have someone come in and hold the dress up because it was too complicated to get on and off," she says with a laugh. So I hope to have a simple dress and a wedding that's not really over the top. I hope it's just an intimate affair with friends and family."
Which brings us back to the original question: Will Amita and Charlie take that trip down the aisle? "I think the audience will be pleased," Rawat teases.
