Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Honor Trayvon Martin at AMAs

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, whose breakthrough hit "Same Love" advocates for same-sex marriage, turned their focus to a new social issue at the American Music Awards Sunday: racial profiling.

The duo, who won Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist as well as Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album (for The Heist), accepted the awards via a satellite feed from a tour stop in Florida. Macklemore eschewed a typical thank-you speech in favor of speaking out against racial profiling.

"Due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award, I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids each year that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it," Macklemore said. "This is really happening. These are our friends, our neighbors, our peers and our fans, and it's time that we look out for the youth and fight against racism and the laws that protect it."
