Video: Check Out the Trailer for the Harrowing New Lifetime Series The Lottery

Imagine a world in which it's been five years since a baby was born. Welcome to Lifetime's new series, The Lottery, from Timothy J. Sexton, who earned an Oscar nomination for the Children of Men screenplay. Like that film, The Lottery is set in a dystopian world struck by global infertility. The lottery in question is held by the U.S. government to determine which women will carry 100 newly fertilized embryos.

Lifetime has been getting darker recently with miniseries like Bonnie & Clyde and the Flowers in the Attic movies. Now it's time for the women's network known for series that are fluffy (Drop Dead Diva), sassy (Devious Maids) or earnest (Army Wives) to work some black magic on longform series. Their first attempt, the sexy Witches of East End (which returns for Season 2 on July 6) has attracted a younger audience, and now the network is going pitch black with this conspiracy thriller.

The Lottery premieres Sunday, July 20 at 10/9c on Lifetime. Here's an exclusive look at the trailer:
