Lin-Manuel Miranda's Kingkiller Chronicle No Longer Heading to Showtime

It looks like fans of Patrick Rothfuss' fantasy series The Kingkiller Chronicle will have to keep on waiting for that TV prequel from Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Rogers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime has passed on the fantasy drama series, releasing it back to producers so that they can shop it around to other potential networks.

The adaptation had been in the works at Showtime for several years, following a 2017 bidding war with other outlets, but it wasn't until January that Showtime's president, Gary Levine, revealed that it was finally in the scripting phase.

The book series centers on Kvothe, a musician and magician who becomes a world-famous wizard. While a film adaptation of Rothfuss' books is expected to tackle Kvothe's side of the story in the novels, Manuel's TV adaptation is expected to journey back in time to the generation before the events that take place in the books.
