Katharine McPhee Latest Idol to Lose Label's Worship

Katharine McPhee and RCA have parted ways, Entertainment Weekly reports, making the Season 5 runner-up the latest American Idol alum to get dropped by their record label. McPhee — who moved only 365,000 copies of her eponymous debut CD — has met the same fate as Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks, both of whom recently saw their original recording deals expire following disappointing sales. Addressing the topic of struggling Idol alums, Simon Cowell on Wednesday chalked it up to the "unpredictability of the record industry," saying that in the case of, say, Studdard, "You'd think he would be on his third or fourth album by now. There's no logical reason."
