Insecure Mega Buzz: Season 3 Will Focus More on New Characters

With Lawrence (Jay Ellis) out of the picture (Sorry, Lawrence Hive), Season 3 of Insecure will put the spotlight on some familiar faces we haven't gotten to know too well yet while also welcoming a few newcomers to fill that blue shirt void left by Issa's ex-boo.

"This season, we follow characters we don't normally follow," showrunner Prentice Penny told TV Guide. "We are definitely meeting new people. A lot of new people."

It makes perfect sense since Issa (Issa Rae) is moving into that post-Lawrence stage of her life where she suddenly has extra time for other people like her homegirl Kelli (Natasha Rothwell), who will take on a much larger role this season now that she's been promoted to series regular. But just because we're going to see a lot more of her, it doesn't mean things will be all rosé and roses. After all, Tiffany's (Amanda Seales) having a baby which will be a game-changer for the group, especially for Kelli who may end up feeling like an outsider.

"It's different when one of your friends has a baby and is married and how that starts to affect the group dynamic. Molly is trying to adult, Tiffany is certainly adulting and maybe Kelly is left out of that. We wanted to explore the overall dynamics of all that," added Penny.

So while Lawrence may be gone, the drama is still there!

Insecure returns for Season 3 on Sunday, Aug. 12 at 10:30/9:30c on HBO.
