Hulu Just Beat Netflix to the Fyre Festival Documentary Punch
This one has an interview with the grifter who put it all together
Hulu just beat Netflix to the Fyre Festival scam party. The rival streamer just surprise-released Fyre Fraud, a documentary about the infamous Fyre Festival, where rich millennials got swindled into ponying up for a fake music festival. It comes ahead of Netflix's much-hyped Fyre on Friday, Jan. 18.
Fyre Fraud has something really special that Fyre does not: a sit-down interview with Billy McFarland, the grifter who put the festival together, the living embodiment of how performative social media appearance can trump reality. Or as Hulu puts it, the fake festival was "the nexus of social media influence, late-stage capitalism, and morality in the post-truth era."
Fyre Fraud is directed by Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason -- Peabody award winners for Time: The Kalief Browder Story -- and described as a "true-crime comedy."
