After just a few days in the Costa Rican jungle, Heidi and Spencer Pratt are already trying to head for the hills.
The recently married stars of The Hills competed in the premiere of NBC's reality show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!Heidi even downed a rat's tail and three scorpions — but not before they threatened to quit twice during the show.
The Pratts reluctantly agreed to remain in the competition, in which 11 celebrities test their survival skills before they're voted off by viewers, but TMZ reports that the duo quit for good after the cameras turned off the show's two-hour premiere.
A rep for NBC would not comment about the report or the couple's contractual obligations for the show, which airs four nights a week at 8 pm/ET, but said Tuesday's episode would address the couple's status.
The protests started as soon as Spencer and Heidi reached the camp site, just meager cots and no shelter. "This isn't the Four Seasons," Spencer quipped, announcing their first departure. Spencer was shown making a phone call to NBC President Ben Silverman and complaining the duo had been hoodwinked.
The show's other contestants — supermodel Janice Dickinson, actors Stephen Baldwin (The Usual Suspects) and Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Young Guns), NBA veteran John Salley, comedy duo Frangela, former American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar, professional wrestler Torrie Wilson, and Patti Blagojevich, wife of impeached Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich — urged the Pratts to think of their charities before quitting. The winner of the competition is awarded a large cash prize to the charity of their choosing.
Heidi and Spencer agreed to stay overnight in the camp, but attempted to leave again in the morning. They returned shortly to discover the remaining contestants had divvied up the contents of the couple's backpacks — a change of clothes and Heidi's "hair product" — throwing Spencer into a tirade.
When Heidi began crying hysterically, Spencer told his bride "That's the first time you've cried on TV that wasn't fake."
If that wasn't enough drama, the couple agreed to compete in the first eating competition, in which Heidi downed the tail and scorpions, while Spencer ate a walking stick insect. They lasted until the live immunity challenge, where contestants stuck their heads in a tank and let bugs crawl on them for as long as possible to win safety from being voted off by viewers. Heidi and Spencer did not compete, and the show ended before the outcome was revealed.
Did you watch the premiere? What did you think of Heidi and Spencer's actions?
