HBO has revealed an extended, epic look at the network's forthcoming adaptation of Watchmen, starring Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Frances Fisher, and James Wolk.

The Watchmen Comic-Con trailer debuted Saturday, hours before the HBO panel for its other sprawling genre adaptation, Westworld. (There is no Watchmen panel scheduled for Comic-Con this year.)

Every TV Trailer Released During Comic-Con

Set after the events of the Alan Moore graphic novel on which the show is based, Watchmen focuses on an alternate American history -- spied in the background during one scene: a photo of President Robert Redford -- "where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws." Irons stars as Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias, who was part of the original Watchmen and ultimately helped the globe achieve world peace by killing millions in the process. He's back here as a supporting character among the ensemble, which is led by the Oscar-winning King. Outside of Veidt, other original Watchmen characters appear in the teaser, including Laurie Blake (Smart), the biological daughter of The Comedian, Edward Blake, and -- most notably -- Dr. Manhattan. Previously unmentioned in Watchmen promo materials, the blue god is referenced as being present in the show's timeline and living on Mars. Better, the teaser ends with Dr. Manhattan's blue hand grabbing a Dr. Manhattan mask on Earth.
