Netflix's The Kominsky Methodtook home one of TV's top honors at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Comedy Series.

In order to claim the prize,Kominsky beat out last year's winner The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry, The Good Placeand Kidding.

Netflix's The Kominsky Method comes from Chuck Lorre and stars Michael Douglas as once-successful actor Sandy Kominsky who now supports himself as an acting coach. Alan Arkin co-stars as Sandy's agent and good friend. Earlier in the ceremony, Douglas nabbed the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series -- Musical or Comedy. Arkin was nominated in the supporting actor category, but lost to _A Very English Scandal_'s Ben Whishaw.

Anyone shocked at The Kominsky Method's win clearly doesn't know the Golden Globes as well as they think. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association loves a curveball, particularly when it comes to awarding new shows. This victory continues the Globes' recent preference to award first-season shows in this category (although the 2015 winner in this category, Mozart in the Jungle, won for its second season).

While many are surely thrilled by the series' victory, there are still those viewers who feel the equally deserving Atlanta -- which won this award two years ago and was tops on many critics' Best of 2018 lists -- was snubbed in the nominations and unfairly not in the running.

The Kominsky Method's first season is available to stream on Netflix. For a full list of Golden Globes winners, head here.
