Gen. Petraeus Faints During Senate Hearing

Gen. David H. Petraeus, the commander of the U.S. forces in the Middle East, passed out Tuesday during a televised Senate hearing. Petraeus had been testifying that the U.S. and Afghan forces are gaining ground in their fight against the Taliban.

Gen. David H. Petraeus, the commander of the U.S. forces in the Middle East, passed out Tuesday during a televised Senate hearing.

The seated Petraeus was listening to Sen. John McCain when he fainted forward. Petraeus had been testifying that the U.S. and Afghan forces are gaining ground in their fight against the Taliban.

Aides immediately rush to the general's side and he was escorted out of the hearing room.

McCain on Tonight Show: "Americans don't want a sore loser"

The New York Times reported that Petraeus returned 30 minutes after fainting and said he "just got dehydrated." He was expected to resume his testimony later in the week.
