Emilia Clarke Already Spoiled the Ending of Game of Thrones for Her Mom

The cast of Game of Thrones has always had a hard time doing promotional rounds for the show, due to the intense level of secrecy that surrounds every detail of the HBO drama. But Season 8 seems like an especially big challenge. The teasers have pointed to a lot of character deaths ahead, so even the tiniest slip could accidentally reveal a major spoiler.

Cast members have been approaching this minefield in very different ways, from staying straight-faced through a barrage of theories to psyching out audiences with their own fake spoilers. Emilia Clarke, however, decided to test one family member's loyalty to her by actually telling her how the whole shebang ends.

In a sit-down on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Clarke revealed that while she definitely wasn't supposed to share her scripts with anyone at all, she did share the ending with her mother.

"I've gotta be honest, I did. I did. Not just my dog. I told -- wasn't supposed to, sorry lads -- I told my mum," she admitted. "But the good thing about telling my mum these things is she's a vault because she's just done forgotten it. I told her. And we were joking about it the other day because I was like, 'Well, you know,' and she was like, 'Do I?' And I was like, 'Yeah, 'cause I told you. You read one of the scenes.'"

Clarke did say, though, that when her mother asked her to re-reveal those key details to refresh her memory, she refused. As guarded as those secrets may be, Clarke still fears that they've been buried deeply enough in her mom's subconscious to cause a problem.

"If she falls asleep on a plane, I'm very worried that in her sleep she's just going to say it and not realize that her subconscious knows what happens," she added.

The good news for Clarke is that it doesn't sound like her mother had the same reaction to being spoiled that Rose Leslie did when Kit Harington let her in on the ending of Season 7. So at least there's that.
