Maisie Williams dropped the riddle of the year this week regarding the fate of Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Speaking at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards, the Game of Thronesstar appeared to confirm Snow's return, but then reaffirmed that he's not alive. Say what?

"I feel so mean because I speak to people and they're all like, 'Jon Snow, is he back?' and it's, like, really heartbreaking because people are like, 'yeah, but he's coming back though?' It's a great twist, but I can't say he's going to be alive,'" Williams said.

So what exactly might Williams mean? Well, let's bring things back to co-creator Dan Weiss' previous reference to Jon Snow saying, "Dead is dead." That is a phrase taken straight from the first page of the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire that refers to Wildlings who come back to life. Could Weiss and Williams be hinting that Snow won't fully return to life like the resurrected Beric Dondarrion, but return with the ice-blue eyes of the baby in Season 4 or the Night's King?

George R.R. Martin's book confirms no Winds of Winter before Season 6

Or maybe no one resurrects Jon and Bran simply wargs into him, leading the charge through his dead brother's body in the upcoming Northern battle.

Honestly, who knows? But at least we're only a few months away from finally getting some answers.

Game of Thrones returns Sunday, April 24 at 9/8c on HBO.
