MacNicol played FBI Assistant Director Stavros Sifter and supervisor of Special Agent Avery Ryan, played by Patricia Arquette. According to Deadline the reasons for MacNicol's departure are creative.

While not replacing MacNicol, CSI star Ted Danson will be bringing his character, D.B. Russell, to Cyber this fall, as CSI gets ready to wrap its 15-year run on Sept. 27.
