Report: Ex-cop Christopher Dorner dead after gunfight with police

After a lengthy manhunt,  police cornered Dorner in a cabin outside of Big Bear, Calif. Tuesday, where a gun battle took place. By evening, the cabin had caught fire and authorities let it burn to the ground. However, officials would not initially confirm Dorner's death until identification could be made. On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the San Bernadino Police Department said that identification was made through Dorner's dental records.

It is unclear whether Dorner took his own life or was killed during the fire. On Tuesday, CBS reporter Carter Evans said that when the cabin first ignited, a single gunshot was heard, which could be have resulted from Dorner firing his gun or ammunition catching fire inside.
