McCarter, who began his career as a model, continued acting sporadically after The Lost Boys, but never achieved the level of fame of his co-stars, including Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman and Corey Haim. He also made regular appearances at horror fan conventions, appeared in the 2010 cult horror film Uh-Oh Show, and guest-starred on The Twilight Zone.

McCarter's family shared news of his passing on his official Facebook page.
