Yi yi yi, Animal Planet's "Turtleman" has just snapped up a second season renewal. The network ordered 20 more half-hour episodes of its new hit series Call of the Wildman for air in 2013. The show, set in the Kentucky backwoods, follows Ernie Brown, Jr. (aka the "Turtleman") as he searches murky ponds for feisty snapping turtles (which have been known to bite through bone). Brown has been in this line of work for three decades. "No job is too tough or dangerous for Turtleman," Animal Planet says.

The series renewal comes after Animal Planet's Labor Day weekend marathon of Call of the Wildman garnered the channel's best-ever Labor Day ratings. The show's back-to-back season finale delivered close to 1.3 million viewers. Call of the Wildman is also one of Animal Planet's top three series year-to-date with viewers and adults 18-49. Sharp Entertainment produces the show.
