Young Tom Edison Reviews

This entertaining biography about two years in the boyhood of Menlo Park inventor Thomas A. Edison is made thoroughly enjoyable due to an energetic performance by Mickey Rooney. Rooney brings warmth and vitality to the title role as he goes about upsetting other people's lives with his experiments. He is branded crazy by his parents, teachers, and peers, but, when his mother falls ill, his inquisitive mind comes up with the very trick the doctor needs to perform a delicate operation. An enthusiastic film about an all-American boy who became a worldwide legend, this picture is perfect for children who are used to historical figures being portrayed as cardboard cutouts. Made in tandem with EDISON, THE MAN, both were scripted by the same team.
