John C. Reilly is a blast in this tuneful, hilarious romp, which parodies musical biopics and rock mockumentaries. He plays the title role, a hard-loving, hard-living Alabama singer who swings with the musical times, covering all genres in an up-and-down five-decade career. Directed by Jake Kasdan, who cowrote the script with Judd Apatow, and who also contributed songs to the soundtrack. Included: cameos by Jackson Browne, Eddie Vedder, Lyle Lovett and Jewel.
