Lubin is a young musician from a family of serious composers who decides to take a less respectable Tin Pan Alley job. He falls in love with secretary Day and changes his name from Lederwitski, a name associated with class musicianship, to Glover. He then takes a job in a small-time cafe banging out honkytonk piano. One day he absentmindedly scribbles a masterpiece of music on a menu in the cafe. The cafe violinist takes the composition to a musical publishing house and from there it is read by Lubin's father, Chautard, a famed music publisher. Chautard, impressed with the idea of meeting a young virtuoso, ventures to the cafe where he is shocked and overjoyed to learn that it is his son who has composed the piece, and they have a tearful reunion.
